Banyu Pinaruh

Banyu Pinaruh is one of Balinese ceremony which is celebrated every the day after Saraswati day (The Goddes of Knowledge). Banyu Pinaruh is celebrated on the first day of Balinese Calendar. That is on the first day of Wuku Sinta. Banyu means "water" and Pinaruh means "knowledge". This ceremony aim to clean our mind with knowledge. Like what written in Bhagavadgita:

"Abhir gatrani sudyanti manah satyena sudayanti"

Which means clean your body with water and clean your mind with knowledge. Banyu Pinaruh day just remind us as a Hindu in Balinese to never stop learning. In Bagavadgita IV.36 also written:

"Api ced asi papebyah, sarwabheyah krt tamah, sarwa jnana peavenaiva vrijinam santarisyasi"

Which means even though you are the most sinful man, you can cross the sea of your sins with your knowledge.

To do Banyu Pinaruh ritual, we use Kumkuman Water. Kumkuman means knowledge. We use this water as a symbol of knowledge to clean our mind. We use it because we can't see a knowledge for real. That's why we use water besides water can use to clean our body though. We made kumkuman by do ngukup. Before we use the water, we have to do offering. We use yellow rice as an offering on Banyu Pinaruh day. After we finish, we pray and got holy water from our private temple (sanggah or merajan). Then, we use the Kumkuman Water at the end.

But, Before we pray, usually We go to beach to clean our body. Because, we believe that sea water is the holiest water in this world. So many people will go to beach. We will take a bath and swimming there. Also, a lot of seller will squezee in this moment. They will sell a lot of things like foods, drinks and stuff that children really like.
